Busy Weekend For BRVFC Volunteers

This weekend turned out to be a busy one for BRVFC volunteers, responding to 4 calls for service as well as completing multiple tasks around the station. On Saturday around 2:00PM firefighters responded to the Schuylkill River in the area of Reynolds dog park for a water rescue with a report of 2 capsized kayaks carrying 6 victims in total. The kayakers were able to extricate themselves from the water, and no fire department services were needed. Later that day around 5:00PM firefighters were dispatched to another reported water rescue on the Schuylkill River in the area of the Fitzwater Station, for 2 capsized kayaks with 6 victims stranded on an island. Boats for Phoenixville Fire Department, Friendship Dive-Rescue Unit, and Collegeville Fire Company successfully rescued 6 total victims. Sunday morning began with firefighters responding to a fire alarm at the 422 Business Center. Later that afternoon around 1:30PM firefighters were dispatched to their 3rd water rescue of the weekend. The BRVFC responded to the Phoenixville-Mont Clare Bridge for a report of a capsized kayaker underneath the bridge. Deputy 99 assumed command and had boats from Chester 65 & 77 launch at Lock 60. Units successfully rescued one victim that was found further down river from the bridge.
