Township Tanker Training

May 24, 2021

On the 3rd Monday of each month the UPT Fire & Emergency Services, along with the 4 volunteer companies that provide service to UPT – BRVFC, Royersford Fire Dept, Collegeville FD, Trappe FD – get together for a joint training session. Last night we had the pleasure of training with Skippack FC, Limerick FD, and Perkiomen FC who each brought their tankers out. There are still a few areas of UPT that do not have public water or fire hydrants available. In these areas we must rely on the response of tankers to provide the water supply. Hands on training was conducted on topics to include setting up a site to fill the tankers, a dump site where the tankers drop the water once on scene, and how to pump the water to the fire. This valuable training will have us all prepared next time tankers are needed. The areas of the township that do not have hydrants have been designated as “Tanker Zones” and tankers are automatically added to all dispatches for reported fires. This saves us valuable time in establishing a water supply in the case of an actual fire. These joint trainings help us get to know the resources of others as well as build relationships and camaraderie with our fellow firefighters from neighboring companies. #brvfc #oneteamonemission
